Perfect for last-minute cravings or sharing as a comforting snack, they come together in under 30 minutes and can be personalized with your favorite toppings and flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend for gluten-free option)
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • Optional: ½ tsp cinnamon or nutmeg (or other spices to taste)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup plant-based milk (almond, soy, oat, cashew, unsweetened)
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil or melted coconut oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare your dry and wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and optional spices until evenly combined. In a separate bowl, mix the plant-based milk with the apple cider vinegar and allow it to sit for about 5 minutes to create a vegan “buttermilk.” Then add the oil and vanilla extract to the milk mixture and stir until well blended.
  2. Combine the wet and dry mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients bowl. Gently fold the mixture together until just combined, taking care not to overmix in order to preserve the light and fluffy texture. The batter should be thick but smooth and scoopable.
  3. Fill your donut molds: Lightly grease a donut pan and spoon or pipe the batter into each cavity, filling them about three-quarters full. This ensures the donuts rise evenly without spilling over during baking.
  4. Bake to perfection: Place the pan in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 12-15 minutes. The donuts are done when the tops spring back when pressed lightly and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool and decorate: Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cool, decorate with your favorite vegan glazes, sprinkles, powdered sugar, or other toppings as desired.

Notes

  • Don’t skip the apple cider vinegar—it reacts with baking soda to create fluffy, airy donuts even without eggs.
  • Use room temperature ingredients to ensure the batter blends smoothly and bakes evenly.
  • Fill donut molds about three-quarters full to avoid spilling and to help donuts rise properly.
  • Allow donuts to cool completely before decorating so toppings don’t melt or slide off.
  • Customize toppings with crushed nuts, shredded coconut, vegan sprinkles, or fruit for added flair.
