Ingredients
Scale
Dough Ingredients
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 1/2 tsp salt
Filling Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Nutella
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Optional Glaze
- Powdered sugar for dusting or
- Simple glaze made from 1/2 cup powdered sugar mixed with 1-2 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: Activate the yeast by mixing it into warm milk with a pinch of sugar until foamy, about 5-10 minutes. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add melted butter, egg, then the yeast mixture. Knead the mixture until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Roll Out and Spread: Gently punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle. Spread a generous layer of Nutella evenly over the surface, then sprinkle ground cinnamon over the Nutella.
- Form the Rolls: Carefully roll the dough from the long edge into a tight log. Slice the log into 1 to 1.5 inch thick pieces. Place the slices spaced apart in a greased baking dish. Cover and let them rise again for 30 to 45 minutes until slightly puffed.
- Bake to Perfection: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes, until golden brown on top and the Nutella swirls look melted and inviting.
- Glaze and Serve: Optionally dust the warm rolls with powdered sugar or drizzle with a simple powdered sugar and milk glaze. Serve the rolls warm to enjoy their soft, gooey texture.
Notes
- Use room-temperature milk, butter, and egg to help the dough rise properly.
- Spread Nutella evenly but avoid an overly thick layer to prevent leakage during baking.
- Allow the dough to rise fully for soft, fluffy rolls.
- Use a sharp serrated knife to cut the rolls to prevent squashing.
- Serve warm or gently reheat leftovers to restore softness.
