Ingredients
Scale
Protein
- 8 oz flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
Vegetables & Aromatics
- 1 bunch fresh broccolini, rinsed and trimmed
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Sauce
- 3 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey
- 1 tsp cornstarch slurry (1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water)
Optional
- Red pepper flakes or fresh chili, to taste
- Cooking oil (vegetable or canola) for stir frying
- Toasted sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Slice the beef thinly against the grain for tenderness. Rinse the broccolini and trim off the ends. Mince the garlic and ginger finely to prepare for aromatics.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, and cornstarch slurry. Set aside to coat the stir fry with a glossy, flavorful finish.
- Cook the Beef: Heat a large skillet or wok over high heat with a splash of cooking oil. Quickly sear the beef strips until browned but still tender, about 2 minutes. Remove the beef and set aside.
- Stir Fry the Broccolini and Aromatics: In the same pan, add a bit more oil and toss in the minced garlic and ginger until fragrant. Add the broccolini and stir fry until bright green and just tender, about 3-4 minutes.
- Combine and Finish: Return the beef to the pan, pour the prepared sauce over everything, and stir well to coat. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and everything is heated through.
Notes
- Prep in advance by slicing the beef and chopping vegetables to streamline cooking.
- Use high heat for quick searing and to keep ingredients crisp.
- Slice beef uniformly for even cooking and tenderness.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary to avoid steaming.
- Use fresh broccolini for best texture and flavor.
- Adjust seasoning last by tasting before serving; tweak soy or sweetness if needed.
