Description

Baked Shrimp Toast is a crispy, flavorful appetizer featuring tender minced shrimp seasoned with garlic, ginger, and sesame, spread over crunchy bread, and baked to golden perfection. This quick and easy recipe delivers a delicious seafood snack with a light, less greasy texture, perfect for parties, brunch, or as a fun starter.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp Mixture

  • 8 oz fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 egg white

Bread & Topping

  • 6 slices white bread, crust removed and cut into halves or thirds
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp Mixture: Finely chop the fresh shrimp or pulse briefly in a food processor until you have a coarse paste. Combine the shrimp with minced garlic, ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, and the egg white in a mixing bowl. Stir until thoroughly mixed and sticky enough to hold onto the bread.
  2. Prepare the Bread: Trim the crusts off the white bread slices and cut each slice into halves or thirds depending on your preferred size. Lightly toast the pieces in the oven or on a skillet to give them a slightly firm base that resists sogginess.
  3. Assemble the Toast: Spread an even layer of the shrimp mixture over each bread piece, pressing gently to help it adhere. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added texture and flavor.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the shrimp toasts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a lightly greased wire rack. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the shrimp mixture is cooked through and edges are golden and crispy.
  5. Serve Immediately: Remove from the oven and serve hot to enjoy the best crunch and flavor. Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs or a drizzle of soy sauce.

Notes

  • Use fresh shrimp for better flavor and texture; frozen can be used if thawed and patted dry.
  • Do not over-process shrimp; keep some texture for better mouthfeel.
  • Press shrimp mixture firmly onto the bread to prevent it from sliding off.
  • Baking on a wire rack helps keep bread crispy on all sides.
  • Serve immediately after baking for the best texture.
